Owen L. Gilbert age 63, of Belding, passed away Thursday, May 3, 2018 at his home under the care of Heartland Hospice surrounded by his family. He was born November 19, 1954 in Portland, the son of Owen G. & Vernie (Laningham) Gilbert. He loved the outdoors and fishing, met and married his best friend Vicki in 1999 and together they did a lot of fishing and boating, loved spending time with his daughters and granddaughters. His only regret is that he will not be able to spend time and help raise JJ. Owen will be missed and until we meet again my friend, we love you. Owen is survived by his wife Vicki; daughters Lacey (Carl) Bowerman of Grand Rapids and Shannon Taylor and her life partner Stacy Bradbury of Belding; grandchildren Allison Bowerman, JJ Taylor, Zach Hearld and best friend Raymond Christensen’s children and great grandchildren, who he called his family; brothers Gerald (Judy) Gilbert of Lake Odessa, Doug (Julie) Gilbert of Grand Ledge and Jim (Roberta) Gilbert of Mt. Sterling, Kentucky; sister Mary Dexter of Charlotte; mother in law Wanda Roberts of Greenville; brothers in law Gary Fancett of Belding and Ritchie (Sue) Roberts of Talbott, Tennessee; sister in law Eloise Gilbert of Portland; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and by his special friends Greg (Ronnie) Jeffrey, Ed Hearld and Mary Ring. He was preceded in death by his parents Owen and Vernie Gilbert, sister Linda Fancett, brothers Jack Wendall and Robert, sisters in law Janet Gilbert and Patti Gilbert, father in law Phil Roberts, brother in law Ron McQueen and his lifelong friend Raymond Christensen. Graveside Memorial Services will be 11 AM Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at Clear Lake Cemetery, by Fred Jeffrey. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial contributions in Owen’s name be made to the Kidney Foundation or Heartland Hospice.
