Melba Berdine (Mumaw) Troyer passed away Wednesday, November 20, 2024 at her home under the care of Corewell Hospice. An unusual name for a remarkable person. Born during the depression on April 24, 1930, in Goshen, Indiana. Melba was one of five daughters born to Aaron and Florence (Loucks) Mumaw. She learned the value of hard work, faith, family, and friends at an early age. Melba loved music, and played the viola. She met her husband Darda in the orchestra. Darda played cello. If he wasn’t there it was “no fun”. Darda and Melba were married March 20, 1949. They had 4 children. Tragedy struck with their second child Diana Sue, who died as an infant. Melba carried this heartache with her, but rarely talked about it. In 1968 Darda and Melba ventured into the restaurant business in Greenville MI. They purchased the HiDelite restaurant from Martin Ballard. They developed a drive-in into a full service sit down restaurant. Melba developed the Daily home made special and homemade pies. Together they poured their heart and soul into it, to make a successful business. They were in the restaurant business for 35 years. They loved people through the restaurant, having people in their home, and later developed the coffee hour in their church. Melba suffered much loss. She was preceded in death by her sisters Carol Miller in 1977 and Erma Hartman in 2000. Beloved husband Darda Troyer in 2013, son Pastor Steve Troyer in 2012, and son Pastor Jerry Troyer in 2023. However, even death did not dampen her thankful spirit. Melba had a strong faith in Jesus from an early age of 12. She was a prayer warrior for her family and friends. Melba was a faithful member of Faith Baptist Church. Even in her dying days, she was still able to recite Psalm 23. Every day was a “beautiful day” regardless of circumstances or weather. Melba is survived by daughter and son in law Bonnie and Phil Symonds of Greenville MI. Daughter in laws: Elaine Troyer of Brisbane Australia, and Mary Troyer of Central Lake MI. Sisters Elnora Weaver of Goshen IN, and Arlene Miller of Albuquerque NM. 12 Grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren. Plus many members of Darda’s family. Special thanks to friend Pixi Rigdon, Dr. Ausiello, and Corewell Hospice. The memorial service will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday, Nov 30th at Faith Baptist Church, with visitation one hour before the service. A luncheon will follow the service. In Lieu of flowers please consider a gift to RBM Ministries PO Box 128 Plainwell, MI 49080 (release time Bible classes for children) where Mary Troyer ministers. Please dress casually.
