Lucille Therese Ceccanese Gunderson

May 27, 1926 — May 25, 2019

Lucille Therese Ceccanese Gunderson, aged 92, of Greenville, passed away on May 25, 2019 after a long illness. Lou was born on May 27, 1926 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, the daughter of Charles Alain and Blanche Rousseau. Her family moved to Toronto, where she attended school and graduated from Notre Dame High School. Lou possessed a deep spirituality and love of God. She had been very involved in the St. Martin’s Guild at St. Charles Church, as well as helping out whenever an extra hand was needed at church functions. She also volunteered at St. Charles School assisting students with their reading, which she loved to do. She had a smile that could light up the room. She was a dedicated homemaker who was totally devoted to raising her three children. When her children were grown, you could find her working at J.C. Penney’s, Nancy VanHorn’s Dollhouse Store, or at the elections. She loved being around people and people loved being around her. She was a true and trusted friend. Among her favorite activities were playing cards, and the only 5-letter word in her vocabulary was BINGO! Lou loved dancing, playing board games, and playing the slots in Las Vegas! One of the highlights of the later part of her life was being part of the Greenville Senior Center. She made many friends and thoroughly enjoyed planning trips all over the country. Preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Charles and Paul Alain, and sister, Germaine O’Halloran. Beloved by her husband Charles Ceccanese of 31 years, who preceded her in death in 1981, and Merlin Gunderson, her second chance at love, who died in 1997. She is survived by her three children: Mary Ceccanese (Lawrence Zelanka), Michael Ceccanese, and David Ceccanese (Karen); her stepson, Ron Gunderson (Carla); seven grandchildren – Mark Molter (Tina), Matthew Molter (Emilie), Michelle Alles (Jacob), Tony Bolden, Katie Shields (Brandon), Christina Ceccanese, and Emily Ceccanese; and eleven great grandchildren – Connor, Gavin, Nicholas, Daniel, Luke, Clare, Henry A., Margaret Lou, AJ, Jack, and Henry S.; brother Henri Alain of Toronto. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Charles Borromeo Church, Greenville at 11 AM Thursday, May 30, 2019 with Fr. Jim Wyse as celebrant. The family will greet visitors at the Marshall Funeral Home on Wednesday from 6 to 8 PM with Rosary recited at 7 PM and from 10 AM till the Mass on Thursday at the church. Interment will be held at St. Charles Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Charles School or Hospice of Michigan. The family wishes to express their sincere and heartfelt thanks to Alicia, Jessica, Jen, Kim, Lee, Tami, Deb, Sue, Cheryl, and the entire staff at Green Acres, for providing Mom with the best care possible, as well as deep love and affection.
