Lawerence E. “Larry” Horning Jr., age 80, passed away on October 30, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of memories, a love for the open road, and a legacy that will live on through his family.

Born on February 1, 1946, Larry was a man who had a lifelong passion for cars, motorcycles, and racing. Whether he was under the hood of a car, cruising down the road on his beloved Harley-Davidson, or spending time at the racetrack, he was happiest doing what he loved.

In his younger years, Larry was an entrepreneur who owned and operated several businesses. He was a man who enjoyed working with his hands, wasn’t afraid to get a little grease on them, and appreciated the thrill of a powerful engine. His love for racing was more than just a hobby. While others gathered in the stands to watch, Larry could often be found behind the wheel, competing at local tracks. He wasn’t one to sit on the sidelines when he could be part of the action.

His passion for cars and Harleys remained a defining part of who he was throughout his life. The rumble of an engine, the excitement of a race, and the freedom of the open road were things that always brought him joy.

Above all, Larry leaves behind a family who will carry his memory forward, remembering the stories, experiences, and moments that made him who he was.

Larry was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marie Horning; his parents, Lawerence and Marie Horning; his sister, Marie Aldrich; and his eldest grandson, Leo Horning Jr.

He is survived by his four sons, Lawerence “Skeeter” (Juanita) Horning, Leo (Stephanie) Horning, Harold (Jennifer) Horning, and Sam Horning; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his beloved nephews, Carl (Heather) Kellogg and Mike Kellogg, along with many cherished great-nieces and great-nephews.

Though his journey here has come to an end, the memories he created and the stories he leaves behind will continue to be shared by those who knew and loved him.

Family and friends are invited to gather to celebrate Larry’s life and share cherished memories on Sunday, November 8, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM, followed by a short service by Pastor Ed Milam, at Marshall Funeral Home in Greenville, Michigan.

A graveside memorial service will be scheduled at a later date, with details to be announced.

One final ride, one last checkered flag. May the roads ahead be endless, the engines always roar, and the wind forever be at your back.

Rest easy, Larry. Your race is finished, but your legacy rides on.
