June R. Merritt age 90, of Greenville, passed away Tuesday, February 8th, 2022 peacefully at Hathaway Hills Assisted Living. She was born December 29th, 1931 in Gowen, Michigan, the daughter of Obediah Nichols & Myrtle Kent-Nichols. June was the seventh child out of fifteen children. June was married to her Navy sweetheart, Kenneth for 61 years. They enjoyed long drives for sight seeing, vacationing every year out of state, and visiting loved ones for a cup of coffee. They were inseparable and you always seen them together. June always surround herself with children. Not only did she raise her own children and grand children, but she made it a point to teach, love and grow with hundreds of kids who attended Cedar Crest Elementary School as she volunteered. She has been known as “Grandma” through generations of families in our area for many years. She also Loved passing down talents to her grandsons like embroidery, sewing, baking and tea parties. Grandma later repeated these teachings to their kids. June is survived by her daughter Debi Hunter of Greenville; 6 grandchildren Dustin & (Melanie) Roy, Craig Hunter, Jennifer & (Dan) Nichols and Michael Hunter of Greenville, Chad Merritt of Sidney and Andy & (Mandi) Merritt of Gowen; 9 great grandchildren; sisters Helen Wright of Greenville; Edith Cooper of Trufant and Ethel & (Frank) Johnson of Stanton; brothers Richard "Butch" Nichols of Mecosta and Bill & (Val) Nichols of Greenville. She was proceeded in death by her husband Kenneth W. Merritt on April 6, 2011 and her son Gale Merritt on November 3, 2015. Also proceeded in death by 7 brothers and 2 sisters.Services will be held in the Spring by the Marshall Funeral Home, Greenville. Burial will be in Rest Haven Memory Gardens.
