James Edward Westbrook of Sidney, Michigan passed away February 1, 2025 at the age of 88 years. Jim passed away peacefully surrounded by his family. Jim was born on December 13, 1936 in Luther, Michigan to Rosell and LaVerna (Ream) Westbrook. Jim grew up in Luther, graduated high school, helped on the family farm and on June 25, 1957 married his sweetheart Vonda May (Hoover) Westbrook. In 1969 Jim moved his family from Luther to Montcalm County. Jim worked hard to provide for his family of five girls: Barbara (Paul) Valverde of Luther, MI, Lori (Dan) Grimm of Sand Lake, MI, Judy Westbrook of Luther, MI, Denise (Scott) Shoemaker of Grand Rapids, MI, and Susan (Brad) Lumbert of McBride, MI. Jim served on the Navy Reserves upon his Honorable Discharge in 1963, where he continued farming and working at Northland Refrigeration in Greenville, MI. Jim had many different careers from logging and milk hauling. Jim enjoyed going to Buckley where he showed off his collection of his Hit & Miss engines. After retiring, Jim loved fishing, hunting, traveling, and spending time with his family and his lovely wife. Jim took his wife Vonda and daughter Judy where they traveled around the United States and found their winter home in Texas. Jim proceeded in death by his wife Vonda May (Hoover) Westbrook and was the eighth child of ten children. Also proceeded in death Jim’s sisters and brothers: Kenneth (Gloria) Westbrook, Leo (Dorothy) Westbrook, Percy (Lorranine) Westbrook, Sarah (Nelson) Udell, Violet (Clarance) Flynn, Russell (Dorna) Westbrook, Vernon Westbrook, Kathleen (Charles) Henderick. Jim has one surviving sister Gladys Moore of Luther, MI. Jim was blessed with eight grandchildren: Danielle, Amber, Tabbitha, Tiffany, Timmy, Tommy, Samantha, Jacob, Katherine and Nicholas. Along with 15 great grandchildren Brooklynne, Jazmyn, Bow, Megyn, Karson, Trey, Kane, Jordynn, Logan, James, Landon, Eleni, Jack, Nash and Anastasia. Memorial contributions can be made in Jim’s name to Corewell Hospice. A Celebration of Life will be held at 12 Noon Wednesday, February 5, 2025 at the Marshall Funeral Home in Greenville, MI with visitation starting at 11:00 AM. A luncheon will immediately follow at the Greenville Moose Lodge.
