Frederick James Corey age 78, of Barryton, passed away June 20, 2025 from injuries in an automobile accident. He was born March 31, 1947 in Montcalm County the son of Paul D. & Barbara J. (Johnson) Corey. He was a Decorated Veteran having served in the Army and awarded the highest honor, The Purple Heart and later became a member of the Sheridan VFW. He loved fishing, going to the races, working on cars, spending time with family, hunting for pop bottles, watching Nascar and Westerns, playing horseshoes, drawing and putting puzzles together. He absolutely loved and adored his dogs “Peanut” and “Baby Girl”, He had always loved eagles as he collected eagle stuff and wore clothes with eagles. Frederick is survived by his wife Bertha (Crawford) Corey; daughter Rhonda (Tony) Phillips of Lowell; sons James Corey of Fenwick and Kevin (April) Corey of Belding; stepsons Tim Wert and Justin Maka both of Luther; brothers Paul (Sherry) Corey of Gowen, Russell (Penny) Corey of Pompeii and Darrell (Bonnie) West of Lakeview; grandchildren Jaden, Reighn and Tyler Corey, Tory O’Neill; Hannah Schadewald, Karli Clark, Kody and Kaleb Meyers and Natalie Wert and Walker Wert; great grandchildren Willow Weeks, Ashlyn and Ronald Mileski and Maverick Meyers and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Paul Corey, mother June Corey, brother Jesse West and his grandson Owen Smith. A Celebration of Life will be 1 PM Sunday, July 27, 2025 at the Sheridan VFW, with a luncheon to follow.
